Tannoy mini autograph

Forget to mention my Tannoy mini. After weeks of burning in using my mini combo radio, these have been fully " burned in" and began to sing beautifully. I missed my Tad 300 but I know that the tad 300 would not fit my new apartment decoration and would have to go. Luckily, my Tannoy is able to fit nicely both in term of my music demand and in term of design and look.

I often missed the LS3/5a too but I know I don't enjoy the tiredness after one hour of listening plus the ever troublesome speakers placement which kills the joy of music and relaxation. After all. The LS3/5a are speakers are originally planned for use as broadcast speakers for BBC mobile van units.

The Tannoy mini had been discontinued. My guess is that not many people is willing to pay so much for a small set of bookshelf speakers. For me, these babies are my second set as my first was sold to a friend which I have regretted deeply. I am so glad to be able to find one set in such pristine conditions.

The Tannoy relax musical tone will definitely capture the hearts of of those who listens to sentimental music in the middle of the night...just let the music flows...

Listening : Willie Nelson healing hands of time

With all my traveling, I have hardly time to turn on my hifi. This evening, I decided to put much efforts to listen to Willie Nelson healing Hands of time (recorded in 1994). For those who enjoy music and vocal, this CD is a must!

I am so glad that my Western Electric amplifiers continues to provide me with the joy of music. At one time, I have lost wanted to sell my hifi...glad that my amplifier is still with me. After all, I have spent much time to search for them and my guess is that it will be near impossible to find them in such nice cosmetic conditions..

My vintage watches and pen collection have grown slowly but nicely, which is good as I take these as part of my "forced saving".

Very often, I have wondered why we need to collect things! My guess is that it helps to give one the joy of finding and owning. I have stopped collecting hifi gears as amplifiers need to be in constant use in order to keep them in good health. With my need for constant business traveling, keeping and using multiple amplifiers is near impossible. As such, I do envy those who has the time to rotate their amplifiers in keeping them in good form.

For those who enjoy vintage amplifiers, you have to try the Western Electric amplifiers as these are the king of amplifiers. Instead of keeping so many sets of amplifiers, just focus on your resources on the best!

Western Electric is like the Patek Philiipe of the watch world. A true classic and timeless..

Willie Nielson Healing hands of Time

This is a special Willie Nelson CD as the arrangement of this music is unique. Willie takes 6 of his own previously released songs, and 4 other very familiar tunes, and records them with an orchestra, torch song style.

Willie's unique vocal style sets the tone for this CD, and the orchestra provides the mood. The combination of the two makes for a sound that is richer and more profound than his original recordings. Highly recommended with 5 stars rating

Dangerous liaisons sound track

This is one of my all-time favorite soundtracks from the 1989. The soundtracks are nice as its music perfectly evokes the film's spirit and themes by combining historically pertinant pieces by Handel ,Bach, and Gluck, with original compositions by George Fenton. From the soundtrack despairing passion undercuts selections like "Beyond My Control" and "A Final Request", reminding the listener of the film's dark emotions and actions. There are also the lighter moments with "Emilie" and "Ombra mai fu."

It's a must for those love classical and opera..5 stars ratings

I have been extremely busy lately traveling and preparing for the launches of the new watch brands. Nevertheless, I have managed to squeeze some time to listen to Danny cd compilation.

This is a good cd as it has put all the best and memorable songs into 2 CDs. In addition, it has Danny's commentary, which expresses his thoughts and emotions with regards to the various songs. It will make you appreciate his songs better...

Jvc HAFXT90

JVC launched a new dual dynamic transducers based IEM called the HA-FXT90. The drivers are in what JVC refers as the 'TWIN system' where no crossover seems to be used but instead the driver themselves have different diaphragm materials that reproduce different region of sound, then mix together naturally inside the IEM.

From an early preview from Japan has suggested that it has a very powerful bass. The one good news is this is not a particularly expensive IEM. MSRP is 10000Yen ( = US$120 or Hk1180. With the twin drivers, one can expect it to perform like a mini speakers with high and low frequencies.

I went to the JVC showroom for an audition and I am so impressed with it that I bought it to use with my portable player PCM M10 and also for use during my flights on business trips.

Protecting our ears is important and a good pair of headphone will certainly help. There are many much more ex waive headphone but I guess this JVC is good enough for me given the nice price performance ratio... Enjoy

Return of the Tannoy Mini Autograph

I used to have a pair of Tannoy Mini Autograph. However, owing to pressures from my friend, I have sold it to him. These was launched in late 2006 and i believe it has been discontinued..

I have been on a "leisurely" search for the Mini Autograph ( for more then one year plus and today, I am lucky as one of my old friend Richard has cut love his set to me... : )

If you asked me to recommend you prettiest set of speakers, the Tannoy Mini is it! Besides visual appealing, in term of sound stage, it is magnificent too! I have always missed my Tannoy..these little mini Tannoy shall be able to satisfy my desire for the Tannoy sound... This was one of the occasion where I really felt excited with these "new" toys!

Over the weekend, I was so tempted to visit the hifi show.

In the end, I didnt go as I know I am in the mood to change speakers again. Since my aim is to 做个简单快乐的人, I have resisted all temptation to change my hifi set and still using the Tad 300+ Western ELectric 124b + Music First Audio pre amplifer = perfect!

I have spend quite some time listening to Karajan conducted Aida and Des Fledaurmaus and Dvorak's symphony no 9. My favourite CDs of the month must be Des Fledaurmaus and the Dvorak's No 9!

所謂的《少年魔號》歌曲來自同名詩集，是長達三百餘年、五百餘首日爾曼民間歌謠之選集，題材從俗世生活到神秘自然，堪稱無所不包。馬勒為此深深著迷，所寫下的《少年魔號》歌曲，也融合精緻技法和原始純粹，將童騃與殘酷、天真與戰亂，以渾然天成的音樂娓娓道來。

「你可真是久站了！

女孩對少年伸出雪白的手。

遠方夜鶯歌唱，女孩難忍哭泣。」

《少年魔號》的內容有多豐富？你可以聽到布穀和夜鶯比賽歌喉，最後卻找了不識美妙的長耳呆驢當評審，也可以聽到將被處死的士兵，哀唱人生最後的抱怨；前一曲，淙淙水聲中有著聖安東尼對魚群傳道的諷刺詼諧；後一首，卻是飢腸轆轆的孩子對媽媽哭嚎，麵包烤好卻已餓死的塵世悲劇……《少年魔號》何等驚奇，馬勒寫下的旋律又動人無比，難怪他一用再用，從歌曲到交響曲，處處都是魔號旋律。想認識馬勒，《少年魔號》絕對是最佳入門。

只是題材雖然多樣，論及哀傷，「美麗號角響起處」，當屬《少年魔號》之最。馬勒寫下極其美麗的旋律，那是女孩千等萬盼，終於熬到情郎歸來的甜蜜溫柔。可嘆那樂聲雖美，卻終究滲著幾許危疑不安。女孩為什麼哭？可能連男孩自己都不知道，他已經成為上天殘酷的玩笑。

「美麗號角響起處，是綠草如茵的遠方。

那是我家，我綠色的家。」

樂曲結尾，圖窮匕見。號角吹響的，不是英雄凱旋，卻是悼亡喪歌。那是戰死情郎化成鬼魂，要帶愛侶前往綠草如茵的新家。愛情雖在，卻已成為無奈憂傷的鬼故事。

何時不相會，偏要選今朝。或許那正是牛郎織女給世間男女的寓言，鬼月裡的情人節。

Amy Winehouse was found dead yesterday. RIP...Her voice reminds me of Billie Holiday. Her problems also remind me of the tragic of Billie Holiday.

The Back to Black album is an emotional cd with strong vocal and light instruments. For those of you who have not heard, suggest you buy one and listen,,

Amy Jade Winehouse (14 September 1983 – 23 July 2011) was a British singer-songwriter known for her powerful contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres including R&B, soul and jazz.

Winehouse's 2003 debut album, Frank, was critically successful in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Her 2006 follow-up album, Back to Black, led to six Grammy Award nominations and five wins, tying the record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night, and made Winehouse the first British singer to win five Grammys,[3][4] including three of the "Big Four": Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. For those who want to give a try at listening to Operetta can try Die Fledermaus., a very musical piece that will certainly delight all..

However, for us who couldn't understand German, we will have to read the booklet with English translation and follow conversation..it's not an easy but after a while, you will get used to it... Enjoy

In addition, one could also read the Synopsis to understand the plot and story...

This is one my favorite operetta, lively and delightful and joyfully musical..

The maid asks for the evening off to visit a "sick aunt," a plea her mistress dismisses. The suitor leaves as Eisenstein and his lawyer, Blind, arrive from a session in court: Eisenstein has been sentenced to a fortnight in jail for a civil offense. No sooner does he dismiss the incompetent advocate than his friend Falke comes to invite Eisenstein to a masquerade, suggesting he bring along his repeater stop-watch, which charms all the ladies, so he can accumulate pleasant memories to sustain him during his confinement in jail. Rosalinde joins Adele in a bittersweet farewell to Eisenstein before he goes off to prison, got up, to his wife's surprise, in full evening dress. Sending Adele to her "aunt," Rosalinde receives the ardent Alfred. Their tête-à-tête is interrupted by the warden Frank, who mistakes Alfred for the man he has come to arrest. Rosalinde persuades Alfred to save her name by posing as her husband, and Frank carts him off to jail.

ACT II. In an antechamber at the palace of Prince Orlofsky, the nobleman's guests, Adele and her cousin Ida among them, await the arrival of their host. Orlofsky enters, quite bored — even with Falke's promise of a comedy of errors. The prince proclaims his guests free to do anything that suits their fancy — "Chacun à son gout." Adele, dressed in one of Rosalinde's most elegant gowns, laughs off Eisenstein's suggestion that she resembles his wife's chambermaid. Frank enters, and Rosalinde, also invited by Falke, arrives disguised as a temperamental Hungarian countess; she is soon wooed by her own reeling husband, whose pocket watch she steals to hold as proof of his philandering. Rosalinde agrees to sing a song about her "native" land, a spirited czardas, after which the guests move on to a magnificent dining area to toast the joys of wine, good fellowship and love. Champagne flows, and the guests dance wildly until dawn. When the clock strikes six, Eisenstein staggers off to keep his appointment at the jail.

ACT III. Moments later at the prison, Frosch, a drunken jailer, tries to keep order among the inmates, who are unable to sleep because of Alfred's singing. Frank arrives, still giddy with champagne, followed shortly by Ida and Adele, who, thinking him a theatrical agent, believes he might further her stage aspirations. Frank, hearing someone at the door, hides the girls in a cell and then admits Eisenstein, who has come to begin his sentence. The new prisoner is surprised to learn his cell is already occupied by a man who claims to be Eisenstein and who was found supping with Rosalinde; to obtain an explanation from the impostor, Eisenstein snatches a legal robe and wig from his astonished lawyer. No sooner is he disguised than Rosalinde hurries in to secure Alfred's release and press divorce charges against her errant husband. With her would-be paramour, she confides her flirtation to the "lawyer." Enraged, Eisenstein removes his disguise and accuses his wife of promiscuity, at which Rosalinde whips forth the watch she took from him at the ball. Orlofsky and his guests arrive to celebrate the reconciliation of Rosalinde and Eisenstein, singing a final toast as Eisenstein is taken away.

This afternoon, after a short boat ride in the morning, i have found some time to listen to the Digitally remastered by Vlado Meller using 24-bit technology (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York) Julio My Life cd.

Julio Iglesias (born September 23, 1943-) in Madrid is Spain's best selling singer in history and one of the best selling hispanic singers of all time. Julio Iglesias has sold 250 million records and released nearly 80 records. He has performed approximately 5,000 concerts during his career

Early career to 1978
He was a professional soccer player with Real Madrid, where he played as goalie. During this time, he also enrolled in law school. He had an accident that dashed his hopes of becoming a great soccer player, but during his period in bed, he started to compose songs. He received a certificate as a lawyer from Cambridge University a little later.

In 1968, he won a songwriter's contest in Spain and signed a contract with an Columbia Records Latin music label, Discos Columbia. He entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 1970 for Spain finishing fourth behind Irish singer Dana and Mary Hopkins of England. He sand the song "Gwendolyne" which as the name of his first record. During the 1970s, he married the half Spanish-half Filipino girl Isabel Preysler and they had three children: Chabeli Iglesias, nowadays a former show host who is a news reporter in Washington D.C., Enrique Iglesias, now a world-famous singer who followed his father's steps, and Julio José Iglesias, a model who has released 2 CDs. It was during the 1970s that the Iglesias family's private life became of public knowledge, with Julio and the rest of the family on the covers of various international magazines many times.

Peak of success 1978-1990
In 1978, he signed a contract for CBS International, propelling him to add English, French and Italian to his language repertoire, because he recorded in those languages also under his new management. He achieved his first hit in English with a cover of "Begin The Beguine" and a compilation album Julio in 1983 building his reputation.

In 1984, he released the smash hit album 1100 Bel Air Place, which gave him considerable fame in Engkish language markets. The album sold three million albums in the US alone with the first single "To All The Girls I've Loved Before", a duet with Willie Nelson reaching top five on the Billboard Hot 100. The album also featured "All Of You", a hit duet with Diana Ross.

In 1985, his father was kidnapped but found well and alive after two agonizing weeks. This prompted Julio, who had already divorced from Preysler, to move his family to Miami, where they settled in a mansion at Miami Beach. That year he also made duets with Diana Ross and Willie Nelson. It was rumored in 1986 that Julio, perhaps seeking to get away from all the fame and hoopla for one week, was found walking around the streets of Cayey, Puerto Rico after disappearing for seven days. Julio feels there is a deep connection between him and Puerto Rico because one of his grandmothers was from there.

Iglesias won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album in the 1988 Grammy Awards for the album Un Hombre Solo or "A Single Man". He also recorded a duet with Stevie Wonder on "My Love" from his Non Stop album which achieved crossover success in 1988.

Stories of Julio's expensive private jets, boats and houses became legendary during that decade, and his world tours took him to such places like Indonesia and Malaysia.

Career 1990-today
In the 1990s, Julio went back to his Spanish music roots and in 1996, he released the CD nicknamed Tango. He is slowly stepping out of the limelight now and enjoying his son Enrique's popularity, together with his long time companion Miranda and their baby daughter.

Julio is very amenable to sign autographs, although he can be a little difficult to reach sometimes, due to his and his family's security detail, which they have had since the 1985 kidnapping of Julio's father.

Iglesias returned to the headlines in October, 2003, when he went to Argentina and kissed show host Susana Gimenez three times on her mouth during a live telecast of her show.

Apartment lease renewed

My landlord has sold his apartment and I was forced to prepare for moving and need to search for a new places. Luckily, my pa has managed to help negotiate with my new landlord for a renewal of lease, with increment of rental though. Have just bought the latest Chai chin's CD. I was told that the first batch of the cd was being produced in Germany. There are two CDs making this a value for money CD. Recording wise was "natural and smooth without the high mixing or "hifi" sound. As this was a life recording, the music is not as sharp as those from the recording studio. If you like to listen the mood of the music and the concert, this is it.

Using my newly bought Elekit to listen to 林良乐 songs. 林良乐's singing really made me understand what is the essence of hifi. It's about listening to songs that touches the heart. Read from the net that she is not doing so well lately and has disappeared.

Elekit power amplifier for the room

I am on leave today. I have been looking for a mini tube amplifier for the room use for a while. Under consideration was the Unison research simply two or the Elekit TU 879s. Getting the simply two was a torture as the seller is only wiling to trade at far away outskirts. In the end, I have managed to find the last brand new Elekit set from a hifi shop in Mongkok together with my son Keith.

Another reason why I have chosen the Elekit was it's ability to use different power tubes ( 6L6' EL34 or KT 88 tubes) owing to it's auto bias capability, making it a fun tasks. One can now have different sound without the need to change the amplifier. All you need is to change the tubes. In addition, The Elekit is very popular in HKG as it is made in Japan plus it's price quality ratio is fantastics.The kit set is of course cheaper. However, the Japanese kit set is 110v. In addition, since I am bad at DIY, it will be a smart decision to let the expert assemble, rather then creating a mess out of it!

Upon reaching home, I immediately put all the tubes in and do my audition using the normal tubes that comes with the set, the sound is nice even using the normal tubes. Will try different tubes at a later stage,, enjoy!

林良乐 (Jessey Lin) - another good cd

林良乐 (Jessey Lin) has a wonderful voice. I have managed to find another of 林良乐 (Jessey Lin) cd from Taiwan. The vocal is very touching and emotional! Listening to her singing is the very reason for our effort in setting up our hifi system!

Even though Jessey is no longer performing in public, her music is with us even after the many years. I first heard her song was more then 20 years ago. Times flies but good music stay...

I have always love fullrange speakers for listening to vocal and violin and light instruments. I have a pair of the much famed Western Electric 755a. In addition, I have also a pair of Altec 755c,which I have seldom used.

However,for those who think that listening to vocal and violin using the LS3/5a is great, you should try the 755 too and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Music First preamplifier

After waiting for several weeks, my MFA passive preamplifier has finally arrived from UK.

For those of you who knows me, I have been looking for a preamplifier to match with my WE124b vintage amplifiers for a long time. I have used the Marantz 7, Fisher 400CX and Fisher 50C and I must say these are very good pre amplifiers. However, these amplifiers will also take away some "charateristics" away from the WE124b.

Immediately after dinner,I quickly plugged in the MFA and my first impression is that WE 124 sound is better refined. I believe with further burning in, the sound will be even better..

Just came back from Taipei and managed to find some good Cds. In particular is this CD by 李子恆 《母亲的容颜》good vocal, very emotional singing, and good stereo recording ..One of the best.Glad i am a Singaporean who can understand Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkkien..

For those who know me, you will know that I have been looking for a pre-amplifier for a long time.

I have used many vintage tube pre amp (Marantz 7, Fisher 400 CX, Fishers 50c), which are good preamplifiers but they have much colouration and MSG.

After days of pacing,moving and un-packing, i have finally settled into my new apartment, which is the block next to my previous one.

The task of moving is always a painful one as one has to do so much planning. I have always reminded not to keep too many items so that I need not pack and unpack so many items but it seems like a tough act to follows.

The good part of the moving is that it helps me to get rid of unwanted and excessive items. During the process, I have managed to let go my unused Boss speakers stand and a pair of speakers.

RCA －Living Stereo的發燒傳奇

世界上沒有任何一個錄音方式比RCA Victor Living Stereo更能夠代表高傳真錄音的黃金年代。這項傲人的成就由RCA唱片公司的音樂製作人及錄音工程師在1950年中期研究開發完成，使得古典樂的錄音技術由單聲道躍升為身歷聲音響，並成為永久性的音響革命。這項科技結合了當時最偉大的古典音樂大師和小提琴家海飛茲、鋼琴家魯賓斯坦、克萊本，女高音普萊絲及指揮家萊納、費德勒等名家的演繹，不但受到消費市場的歡迎，同時也博得專家一致的肯定。Living Stereo將為錄音技術帶入嶄新的時代，並為立體聲奠定了無法企及的崇高地位。

Living Stereo的故事
一九五四年，RCA Victor主導並首次在波士頓交響廳試驗使用多軌錄音方式收錄了孟許指揮波士頓交響樂團演奏白遼士的「浮士德的天譴」。這是RCA公司第一次用單聲軌及兩軌錄音帶同時作業的錄音，這些試驗尚包括了一九五四年三月延聘了一組專家在芝加哥的管弦樂廳所作的細部修正。這就是立體身歷聲音響技術攻佔消費市場的濫觴。

當RCA Victor著手多軌錄音計劃時，唱片製版技術和消費市場的音響播放系統還是單聲道，因此RCA的錄音工程師們只好繼續使用二軌及三軌設備錄製海飛茲、萊納等大師級演奏家的錄音，以期待家用音響能趕得上雙聲道的時代。一九五五年，立體聲錄放音機終於進入消費市場，同時RCA唱片公司也發行了第一卷立體聲音樂帶，這種立體聲音響帶將高傳真音響帶入新的境界。一九五八年，西方電子公司（Western Elec-tric Company）推出了劃時代的立體唱片刻版系統之後，第一部立體聲唱機便出現在商店裡，同年的稍後，RCA發行了Living Stereo的LP唱片，成為高傳真黃金時代的最佳典範。
在當時，Living Stereo是一項藝術和科技的革命。從音樂的角度而言，藝人能夠錄製一個完整的演奏，而不是僅僅用單聲道製造出一個類似演奏的聲音。如此一來，指揮家可以體驗出樂團和獨奏者之間的平衡，並將全部精神放在音樂本身，而不必為了遷就科技的不是而削弱音樂性。

重新發行的Living Stereo

在九零年代，為了能將Living Stereo重新製作成CD，執行製作John Pfeiffer和他的組員從RCA的庫房之中尋找Living Stereo的珍品。由於這些多軌錄音母帶經過長時間氧化，不當的使用和材料疲乏，難免造成損壞，因此一但找出之後，都必須經過仔細的修復才能使用，而這些母帶當年都是用真空管擴大機所錄製，所以必須要把這些機器修復後才能播放母帶的聲音。除此之外，他們在再製過程中沒有添加任何外來的處理（如電腦剪輯、雜音消除裝置），因而保留了原錄音中優異的頻率響應和動態頻寬。

後來，SACE技術成熟後，也曾經以Hybrid 的SACD格式發行。現在這套60張CD的Living Stereo更首度將這一系列偉大的錄音收錄在同一套裝裡，以超值優惠價格、原始LP封面作為紙套包裝、精美解說冊更完整收錄每張專輯LP原始的解說文，對於愛樂者可說是最佳的套裝收藏。

This is a CD from Jeff Wang, a famous Taiwanese singer, actor, DJ in Singapore & Malaysia.

It is a great vocal CD especially for songs. My favourites are:

王建復簡介
是1999年《才華橫溢出新秀》亞洲之星（新加坡最具權威的區域性演藝新人選拔賽）男子組冠軍。在大決賽中，他以蟹將軍一角令評審及觀眾留下深刻印象，生動的演繹教人對這位新人另眼相看。他具現代感的外型結合Y世代的爽朗性格，使他成為新世代偶像的最佳人選。他加入演藝圈的首部電視劇是《新好男人》，飾演擁有反傳統愛情觀的廣播員。

在《亞當周記》中，飾演一位攝影師，並與臺灣演員吳大維演對手戲。除了較具喜感的角色外，他也在《迷幻特警》中飾演陽剛衝動的警探，演技深具說服力。他的最新力作是新加坡與香港衛視合作的跨國電視劇《叛逆戰隊》。建復擁有一定的歌唱背景，在臺灣是多項歌唱比賽的優勝者，包括寶麗金唱片公司及電視臺 TVBS所主辦的比賽。
