Tannoy mini authographe

I have owned the Tannoy Catebury. However, owing to the constant moving of apartment, I have to settle for a small speakers for easy transportation. From the net, information, The Tannoy Autograph Mini is nothing but a top-notch audiophile loudspeaker, constructed in a rather small version, for better accommodation in multiple places around the room, with zero efforts and max results.
In addition, despite it modest dimensions, the Tannoy Autograph Mini is capable of deploying a stunningly big sound, with far better imaging and transparency than most loudspeakers in the same range and class: it packs the same careful handcrafted and assembled cabinet with most serious internal damping and strutting ensuring almost perfect inertness for better dealing with resonance and vibrations, thus offering a non-colored acoustic response.
The technical details from the net: The core of the Tannoy Autograph Mini is a Dual Concentric 4” driver, a recognized symbol of acoustic performance and sonic reproduction elite. The DC driver is actually a combo, formed by two distinct transducers, coaxially loaded and offering unbelievable capabilities as a point source-dispersion unit. The coaxial loading allows for a sonic reproduction with an extreme natural sound, never leaking the brightness and the brittle of real, day by day life.
While the LF cone is made from multi-fiber paper pulp and sports a rubber surround for extended excursion and ultimately, a deep, tight bass, the HF unit runs on a titanium dome loaded in a Tannoy proprietary Tulip Waveguide. Such a driver complement ensures a frequency range from 68Hz to 54kHz, suitable for high-def formats like the SACD or DVD-Audio as well.
Hand-wired crossovers and 99.99% Van den Hul internal wiring ensure minimal signal loss and a greater transparency for your audio media. The Tannoy Autograph Mini can deliver as much as 50W RMS in 8 Ohms and with 88dB.
This is my second set of mini. I have sold the first set to a friend with deep regret and luckily, I have managed to get one set back again...

I have managed to find some old Roman Tam CDs as well as others. The Roman shanghai New York cd is very interesting as it was reordered in the states using the big band and most musicians are non Chinese.

Vintage 軍艦speaker cables

I was in Berlin last week and was on the internet at night and i found that there is an audiophile (back in Hong Kong) selling speakers cables made from old British Navy battleship communication cables. The audiophile Mr. Chen has managed to find some nice communication cables from the retired British Navy ship and as an audiophile, he has converted these communication cables to speakers cables.
Recently, my hifi fever has began to warm up. I quickly contacted the seller when I am back in Hong Kong and to satisfy my curiosity, I have bought these vintage speakers cables made from cables of the old Navy vessel for home to try (plus he promised a full return if i am unsatisfied). The cables Have 4 layers of protection using cotton, linen, as well as a layer of oil to protect it from the salty sea water.. Just tested the cables.




After playing the cables for several hours, the cables are slowing burned in (using special cables burn in cd) and I can hear more clarity and details ..Enjoy

Mariner has always been one of my favourite conductor for Mozart and I am phased to find the complete symphonies. In addition, I have managed to find the much scare CDs from Celibidache...

Katie Melua Secret Symphony

I am a fan of Katie Melua. I got to know her release of latest album while on board. Plane to Bangkok. I could not wait and bought it from Central world Bangkok. This is one f my favourite cd as the ones are all sentimental and all the songs are great!

吉祥三寶： 布仁巴雅尓

這是幾年前買的CD。一首名叫《吉祥三寶》的蒙語歌曲，歌曲中那個小女孩清脆天真的嗓音，讓人過耳難忘。據悉，在北京等城市，這首簡單悅耳、描寫三口之家融融親情的歌曲已經多次在各種排行榜上名列前茅。這首歌曲的詞曲作者是中國國際廣播電台蒙語節目主持人布仁巴雅爾，布仁巴雅爾和妻子烏日娜、七歲的侄女英格瑪共同演唱了這首描寫美滿家庭的歌曲，歌曲在沉寂了11年之後，終於用真情打開了人們的心扉。


《吉祥三寶》獻給愛女
布仁巴雅爾是中國國際廣播電台的記者、翻譯和蒙語主持，他生於呼倫貝爾，長於草原深處，並在北京工作二十載。《吉祥三寶》是布仁巴雅爾寫給他當時3歲女兒諾爾曼的作品，是其首張專輯《天邊》中的主打歌。布仁介紹說：「《吉祥三寶》是我從與女兒的對話中提煉出來的歌曲，她很好奇，甚麼都會問，我回答不出來時，就回答她『吉祥三寶』。」如今的諾爾曼已經成長為一個青春少女了。


據悉，這首歌是布仁特地從內蒙古草原找來當時7歲的侄女英格瑪錄制的，英格瑪是第一次進錄音棚，第一次見到麥克風，帶著那股興奮而純真的孩童之情，她把《吉祥三寶》唱得格外悅耳動聽。我本身，最喜歡天邊這一首歌。

This is the best cd for Ritchie as it has many of my favourite sings.

任賢齊原本決定如果《心太軟》專輯銷售成績不理想，將離開藝人身分，投考體育新聞記者，因為這張專輯是唱片公司給他的最後機會，若是銷售紀錄還是毫無表現將會與他解除合約關係，不料《心太軟》專輯在亞洲創下了號稱200萬張的銷售佳績,其中主打歌心太軟更紅遍中國大陸大街小巷，並在亞洲地區獲得多個獎項，此後這首歌在華人圈無人不知曉. 但是，直到1998年因《愛像太平洋》專輯在台灣暢銷熱賣，才使得他能從大陸地區紅回台灣.

　顯然的，蔡琴的目的達到了，如果您可以靜靜地坐下來好好的享受音樂，「機遇／蔡琴」，絕對是國語CD之中的上品之作。這是我個人最喜歡的CD

The Artist

This is a great cd with music performed by 80 musicians: 50 string players, 4 French horns, 4 trombones, 5 percussionists who ran all over the concert hall, a Harpist, 10 technicians, 5 Orchestrators, 3 mixers. A real work! Performed by The Brussels Philharmonics the Orchestra of Flanders conducted by Ernst Van Tiel.

It's a night for Dan Fogelberg

My first listeing to Dan Fogelberg was in 1981 when I was in St Andrew's secondary school listening to the song "Leader of the Band" which has created a great impact on my music journey. Even though I am not musically inclined or able to play instruments, my love for music never faded. My favourite songs is firstly, the Same Old Lang Syne which always create a movie visual in my mind of how Dan Forgelberg met his old girlfriend during the Christmas. This song is really emotional and touching and is for guys who misses their od girlfriend.. Another great one is Run for the Rosses where the melody and singing will surely catuch your heart and soul. Rest in peace Dan Forgelburg! Thanks for giving us all the wonderful music! Your voice still occupy our minds and our hearts! Especially when one is down, your songs help to lift the spirit! Thanks, even after 30 years, I am still listening to the tracks! Man grow old, music never!

I have spend the evening listening to Tchaikovsky for violin and Orchestra performed by the great David Oistrakh and another cd by the great Heifetz... Wonderful and touching!

The Decca Sound

For those of you who wants to get into the world of classical cd, this Decca Sound box set (50 CDs) is a must as it has many highly recommended recording including the Amsermet, Argenta, Marriner, Solti, etc. Selling at Hk$880 for 50 CDs, it's a real bargain!

Tannoy mini autograph

Forget to mention my Tannoy mini. After weeks of burning in using my mini combo radio, these have been fully " burned in" and began to sing beautifully. I missed my Tad 300 but I know that the tad 300 would not fit my new apartment decoration and would have to go. Luckily, my Tannoy is able to fit nicely both in term of my music demand and in term of design and look.

I often missed the LS3/5a too but I know I don't enjoy the tiredness after one hour of listening plus the ever troublesome speakers placement which kills the joy of music and relaxation. After all. The LS3/5a are speakers are originally planned for use as broadcast speakers for BBC mobile van units.

The Tannoy mini had been discontinued. My guess is that not many people is willing to pay so much for a small set of bookshelf speakers. For me, these babies are my second set as my first was sold to a friend which I have regretted deeply. I am so glad to be able to find one set in such pristine conditions.

The Tannoy relax musical tone will definitely capture the hearts of of those who listens to sentimental music in the middle of the night...just let the music flows...

Listening : Willie Nelson healing hands of time

With all my traveling, I have hardly time to turn on my hifi. This evening, I decided to put much efforts to listen to Willie Nelson healing Hands of time (recorded in 1994). For those who enjoy music and vocal, this CD is a must!

I am so glad that my Western Electric amplifiers continues to provide me with the joy of music. At one time, I have lost wanted to sell my hifi...glad that my amplifier is still with me. After all, I have spent much time to search for them and my guess is that it will be near impossible to find them in such nice cosmetic conditions..

My vintage watches and pen collection have grown slowly but nicely, which is good as I take these as part of my "forced saving".

Very often, I have wondered why we need to collect things! My guess is that it helps to give one the joy of finding and owning. I have stopped collecting hifi gears as amplifiers need to be in constant use in order to keep them in good health. With my need for constant business traveling, keeping and using multiple amplifiers is near impossible. As such, I do envy those who has the time to rotate their amplifiers in keeping them in good form.

For those who enjoy vintage amplifiers, you have to try the Western Electric amplifiers as these are the king of amplifiers. Instead of keeping so many sets of amplifiers, just focus on your resources on the best!

Western Electric is like the Patek Philiipe of the watch world. A true classic and timeless..
